Pan Island Expressway

The Pan Island Expressway is the oldest and, at 42.8 kilometres, the longest expressway in Singapore. Opened in 1966, it runs almost the full width of the island, linking the industrial Tuas area in the west with Changi Airport in the east. For visitors it is less a sight than a lifeline: almost every taxi or bus ride between the airport and the centre uses a stretch of this road.
