Bundesautobahn 8

Also known as: BAB8, A 8, Autobahn 8

Munich
  • Highway

The A8 is one of central Europe's key east-west corridors, running in three sections from the Luxembourg border at Perl via Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich to Bad Reichenhall on the Austrian border. It is the classic route from the Rhineland into the Alps and is notoriously jammed in summer holiday season. The Albaufstieg climb near Stuttgart, with its steep curves, has been a known bottleneck for decades. For travellers heading toward Salzburg, Tyrol or Italy from the north, the A8 is practically unavoidable.
