Église Notre-Dame

The Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg City is an early Baroque church built by the Jesuits between 1613 and 1621, elevated to cathedral status in 1870 when the Diocese of Luxembourg was established. Its interior pairs Jesuit architectural restraint with ornate vaulting, and at its spiritual center stands a late-Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary dating to the 15th century, venerated as patroness of Luxembourg. Each May the cathedral hosts the Octave of Our Lady, the country's largest religious pilgrimage, drawing tens of thousands of worshippers from across the Grand Duchy.
