烏奇沙城堡

Uçhisar Castle is a volcanic tuff rock fortress and the highest natural point in Cappadocia, rising roughly 60 metres above the surrounding plateau. Formed by eruptions of Mount Erciyes and sculpted by millennia of erosion, the soft rock was honeycombed in Byzantine times into a dense network of cave dwellings, storage rooms, and tunnels used as refuge against Arab raids in the 7th and 8th centuries. The castle represents the region's characteristic strategy of turning the landscape itself into fortification — a pattern repeated across Cappadocia's underground cities and cliff monasteries. From the summit, visitors take in a sweeping panorama of the Fairy Chimneys, the Pigeon Valley, and on clear days the snow-capped cone of Mount Erciyes.
