Hemp Museum
Also known as: Hanf Museum Berlin
- Themed Museum
The Hanf Museum in Berlin's Nikolaiviertel is the only museum in Germany dedicated exclusively to the cannabis plant. It opened in 1994 in response to the Hanfparade that had begun shortly before and has since seen itself as a drug-policy education project, not a consumption lounge. The permanent exhibition covers the full spectrum from pre-industrial hemp processing with historic breaking tools through medical applications to textile products made from hemp fibre. A dedicated module on child and youth protection targets school groups with tailored tours. The institution co-organises the annual Hanfparade and acts as a hub for the German legalisation movement. Industrial hemp plants grow in the inner courtyard under permit.
