Herns Mill Covered Bridge

The Herns Mill Covered Bridge is an 1884 timber structure spanning a rural creek near Lewisburg in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Built using a Queen post truss design, it measures just over 53 feet in length and retains its original red board-and-batten siding beneath a galvanized sheet metal roof. It was constructed specifically to provide wagon access to the S. S. Hern grist mill, which has long since ceased operation. Of the many covered bridges that once dotted Greenbrier County, only two survive — making this one a listed entry in the National Register of Historic Places. It sits quietly in open Appalachian farmland, drawing visitors interested in 19th-century vernacular engineering.
