Zemra e Krishtit Catholic Church of Tirana

The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is a Roman Catholic church in Tirana, set on Rruga e Kavajes west of Skanderbeg Square. It was built in the late 1930s and was one of only three Catholic churches in Tirana before communism - a fact that shaped its history after Hoxha's 1967 ban on religion. It now belongs to the Archbishopric of Tirana-Durres and has been a listed cultural monument since 2007. The building is plain: a single nave with a low porch and small bell tower, fitting into the dense street wall of Kavaja Street. Inside, worshippers find wall paintings and a Sacred Heart statue above the high altar.
