Lanxess Arena

The Lanxess Arena in Cologne's Deutz district is Germany's largest multipurpose indoor venue, holding up to 20,000 spectators, and ranks among Europe's most-visited arenas. It opened in 1998 as the Kölnarena before being renamed through a naming-rights deal with chemical company Lanxess. The flexible steel structure allows configurations between 8,000 and 20,000 seats, making it equally suited for Kölner Haie ice hockey matches and global concert tours — U2, Madonna, and nearly every major touring act have played here. The annual program rotates through ice hockey, basketball, boxing, musicals, and ice shows. The arena sits directly across the Rhine from Cologne's main station, easily reachable via the Deutzer Brücke or the Köln Messe/Deutz rail stop.
