Mexikoplatz

A square in Vienna's 2nd district of Leopoldstadt, split in two by the ramp of the Reichsbruecke and bordering the Handelskai on the Danube's right bank. It got its present name in 1956 to thank Mexico, the only League of Nations member that formally protested the 1938 Anschluss of Austria to Nazi Germany - a diplomatic gesture commemorated by a stone here. The dominant building is the brick-clad Church of Saint Francis of Assisi (the Mexikokirche), a neo-Romanesque pile from the 1890s built to mark Emperor Franz Joseph's reign jubilee. The square works more as a traffic interchange than a stopping point, but knowing the backstory gives you a real reason to linger.
