Moscow Cathedral Mosque

The Moscow Cathedral Mosque on Olympiysky Prospekt is the central Friday mosque of Russia and seat of the Mufti Council of the Russian Federation. The original 1904 mosque was demolished in 2011 and replaced by 2015 with a monumental new building that holds around 10,000 worshippers beneath a 46-meter main dome. Presidents Putin and Erdogan jointly opened the complex, which today serves as the main gathering point for Eid prayers in the capital. Two 78-meter minarets flank the structure, whose interior is decorated with blue calligraphy and gilded borders. Visitors during Friday and feast prayers see thousands of worshippers from across Russia and Central Asia. Outside prayer times the courtyard is quiet and accessible with appropriate dress.
