The Nécropole Nationale de Brandeville is a French state military cemetery near Williers in the Meuse department, holding soldiers killed during the First World War. The surrounding region was among the most heavily contested of the entire war, lying close to the Verdun front and the Ardennes lines. Maintained by the French state, the site follows the standard necropolis layout: uniform grave markers and rows of simple crosses that communicate the scale of loss without ornamentation. There are no visitor facilities or exhibitions — the place speaks entirely through its silence.
