Pathé Tuschinski Cinema

The Tuschinski at Reguliersbreestraat 26-28 is Amsterdam's most famous movie palace, now operated by Pathe. The main hall seats 784, with five smaller screens of 105 to 191 seats. Polish-Jewish immigrant Abraham Tuschinski commissioned it in 1921 - an exuberant blend of Amsterdam School, Art Deco and Jugendstil, with hand-knotted carpets, Murano glass lamps and a Wurlitzer organ. Tuschinski was murdered at Auschwitz in 1942; the cinema survived and became a Rijksmonument. Today you can watch Hollywood premieres or arthouse releases in one of Europe's most lavish auditoriums, often with live organ music before the show. Even just stepping into the foyer is half the experience.
