Bröhan Museum

The Broehan Museum directly opposite Charlottenburg Palace is Berlin's state museum for Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism - one of the most concentrated European applied-arts collections from 1889 to 1939. Karl H. Broehan, a Berlin entrepreneur, obsessively collected furniture, porcelain, glass, poster art and silver of the period from the 1960s onward and donated his collection to the State of Berlin on his 60th birthday in 1982. The museum opened in 1983 in a former barracks building. Highlights are fully reconstructed salons by Hector Guimard, Eugene Gaillard and Henry van de Velde, plus posters by Mucha and vases from the Wiener Werkstaette. Small, quiet, often surprisingly empty - and that is exactly what makes the visit relaxed.
