Seville Theatre

The Seville Theatre was a 1928 movie palace on Sainte-Catherine Street West in Montreal's Shaughnessy Village district, built during the final years of the silent-film era when grand picture houses lined the street as the city's main entertainment corridor. It closed in 1985 and then sat abandoned for a quarter century — an unusually long dormancy for a central urban lot. The building was demolished in October 2010, leaving no physical trace. The site stands as a marker of Montreal's largely vanished interwar cinema heritage, a typology that once defined the street's character.
