Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte

The Wilhelm-Foerster-Sternwarte, perched atop the Insulaner — a post-war rubble hill in Berlin's Tempelhof-Schöneberg district — is one of Germany's largest and most storied public observatories. Founded in 1947 and named after Berlin astronomer Wilhelm Foerster (1832–1921), it combines active telescopic research with public outreach and runs an adjoining planetarium. The facility holds the international observatory code 544, meaning its observations are cited in professional astronomical literature. Because it opens only for scheduled events, visits center on evening telescope sessions, guided sky tours, and lectures for both adults and children. The listed domed structure is a protected cultural monument (Kulturdenkmal).
