History in Singapore

Singapore's history can be traced through its streets, bridges, and public buildings. Fort Canning Hill served as an early seat of administration and later as a military site, while the Asian Civilisations Museum documents the many cultures that shaped the island. Colonial-era landmarks such as City Hall, CHIJMES, and the iron-railed Cavenagh Bridge stand alongside river crossings like Coleman Bridge and Elgin Bridge. Boat Quay reflects the city's origins as a trading hub, and Bukit Timah Road follows one of the island's oldest overland routes. Later additions — the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and the Ayer Rajah Expressway — trace Singapore's rapid transformation into a modern metropolis.
