Nature in Tokyo

Tokyo holds a surprising number of green spaces woven into its dense urban fabric. Hama-rikyū Gardens stretch along the waterfront, while Asukayama Park is one of the city's oldest public parks. The Former Furukawa Gardens blend a Western-style rose garden with a traditional Japanese landscape garden. Quieter retreats can be found at Hibiya Park, the grounds of Edo Castle, and Aoyama Cemetery. Shrines such as Ejima Shrine and Hikawa Shrine are framed by mature trees, and the Hase-dera temple complex adds further greenery, rounding out a city with far more nature than its skyline might suggest.
