12.-Februar-Park

The 12.-Februar-Park is a modest neighborhood green space in Vienna, named for February 12, 1934 — the day Austrian Social Democrats took up arms against Engelbert Dollfuss's authoritarian regime in a four-day civil war that ended in the workers' movement being crushed and the Social Democratic Party banned outright. The name makes this otherwise ordinary park a quiet marker of a largely overlooked chapter in Austrian history, sandwiched between the fall of parliamentary democracy and the later Nazi annexation. Today it functions as a local resting spot with benches and walking paths, drawing residents rather than tourists.
