Pedestrian steel bridge over the Danube, connecting Bratislava old town with Petržalka
The Old Bridge – Starý most in Slovak – crosses the Danube in Bratislava, linking the historic old town with the modern district of Petržalka. The original structure dated back to the 19th century and served trains, cars, and pedestrians for decades. After the dilapidated predecessor was demolished, a sleek new steel arch bridge with five natural stone piers and six spans opened in 2016. Today it is reserved for pedestrians and cyclists, giving it a calm, unhurried atmosphere unlike any of Bratislava's other crossings. From the bridge, there are clear views of Bratislava Castle and the wide Danube below.
