Amstelpark

The Amstelpark in south Amsterdam was laid out in 1972 as the grounds of the World Horticultural Exhibition Floriade, covering around 70 hectares, and was kept as a public park afterwards. Survivors of the fair include the rosarium, the Japanese-inspired Rhododendronvalei and a small lake with pedal boats. The park is car-free, popular with families, and houses the Orangerie greenhouse, a petting zoo and a model railway that runs loops in summer. The preserved Floriadetoren serves as a lookout in the south of the park. An adjoining sculpture garden rounds out the programme.
