Shah Alborz

Shah Alborz is a 4,200-metre peak in Iran's Alborz mountain range, rising steeply on its north face above the Alamut Valley. A glacier covers portions of that north face between 3,400 and 3,600 metres — a relatively rare feature at this latitude. To the south opens the Taleghan Valley, to the west the plains of eastern Qazvin province, giving the summit a panoramic position between three distinct landscapes. The ascent demands alpine experience, particularly on the glaciated north face. For mountaineers based in Tehran, it represents one of the more serious objectives in the western Alborz.
