Aiguille de Rochefort

The Aiguille de Rochefort is a 4,001-metre summit on the Rochefort Arête in the Mont Blanc massif, sitting precisely on the border between France and Italy. Its first ascent was made on 14 August 1873 by Alphonse Payot, Michel-Clément Payot, and J. Eccles, placing it among the peaks claimed during the golden age of alpine exploration. With only 106 metres of prominence above the col to the Dôme de Rochefort, the summit is typically tackled as part of a full traverse of the Rochefort Arête between Dent du Géant and the Grandes Jorasses — a classic high-alpine route demanding glacier travel and exposed ridge climbing. The summit rewards with sweeping views across the ice fields of the Mont Blanc massif toward Chamonix and the Valle d'Aosta below.
