Königswinter station on the East Rhine Railway opened on 11 July 1870 as part of the line's extension from Neuwied to Oberkassel. The neoclassicist station building is a protected monument under North Rhine-Westphalian heritage law. The station serves as the gateway to the Siebengebirge (Seven Mountains): Drachenfels, Drachenburg castle, and the protected hills are all within reach from here. RE 8 and RB 27 services link Königswinter to Cologne and the Westerwald.
