Railway History
Buchs SG railway station opened in 1858 and sits in Canton St. Gallen close to the Austrian border. It serves as Switzerland's most significant rail freight border crossing into Austria, operating alongside the passenger facilities a dedicated marshalling yard and customs infrastructure. For travellers it functions primarily as an interchange point for connections toward Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein.
