Kaliningrad Railway station

Kaliningrad's main passenger terminal was built in 1929 as Königsberg Hauptbahnhof, the central station of the East Prussian capital — a textbook example of Weimar-era expressionist brick architecture. After World War II the city was ceded to the Soviet Union, renamed Kaliningrad, and the station received its current Russian designation. To this day the words 'Yuzhny Vokzal' (South Station) are inscribed in large letters above the main entrance, a Soviet-era label that persists alongside the official name Kaliningrad-Passazhirsky. Listed as a regional cultural heritage site of Russia, the building is one of the few remaining architectural traces of Königsberg's German urban identity. Travelers departing toward Moscow or Vilnius pass through one of Europe's most layered exercises in historical rebranding.
