Cais do Sodré railway station

Cais do Sodré station is Lisbon's westernmost downtown terminus, sitting directly on the Tagus riverbank where rail, metro, and ferry lines converge. Opened in 1895 and later rebuilt in Art Déco style, the interior features hand-painted azulejo tile panels — the distinctly Portuguese tradition that turns many of the country's stations into informal galleries. Trains depart here along the coastal Estoril line toward Cascais, while ferries cross the Tagus to Cacilhas. The surrounding square and renovated waterfront connect the station to the broader Cais do Sodré neighbourhood, a formerly rough dockside district that has evolved into one of Lisbon's more frequented riverside gathering points.
