Santa Apolónia Station

Lisboa Santa Apolónia, opened in 1865, is Lisbon's oldest and principal long-distance railway terminus, sitting directly on the Tagus riverfront in the São Vicente district. As a terminal station, it is the arrival point for all trains from northern Portugal as well as international services from Spain and France, handling everything from the high-speed Alfa Pendular to overnight hotel trains. The station's interior is decorated with characteristic Portuguese azulejo tile panels, a tradition that turns many of the country's railway stations into informal galleries. The riverside position offers open views across the Tagus, and a metro station directly below the building connects it to the wider city network.
