Newcastle railway station

Newcastle Central is the main railway station of Newcastle upon Tyne and one of Britain's finest examples of classical railway architecture. Designed by John Dobson and opened in 1850, it features a sweeping curved train shed and a grand columned portico in local sandstone — at the time among the most ambitious station designs in England. Listed at Grade I, the highest tier of heritage protection, it anchors the southern city centre as a civic landmark. Inside, the Victorian proportions of the main hall still convey the ambition of the early railway age, despite modern retail additions.
