Bampton Castle

Bampton Castle was a medieval motte-and-bailey fortification near the village of Bampton in Devon, serving as the seat of the Norman Barony of Bampton. Little survives above ground today — the earthwork mound of the motte is the most legible remnant of what was once a seat of regional power. The site is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, making it of interest primarily to those tracing Norman feudal history in the West Country.
