Basilica di San Pietro

The Basilica di San Pietro is a Romanesque monastic church founded in the early 10th century on the southern edge of Perugia, its slender bell tower a landmark visible across the Umbrian hillscape. Established by Benedictine monks, the complex is designated an Italian national monument and ranks among the region's most important medieval religious sites. Inside, the church holds an unusually dense accumulation of frescoes, panel paintings associated with the circle of Perugino, and elaborate 16th-century wood-carved choir stalls. The monastery's southern terrace opens onto a quiet panoramic view over olive groves and the valleys surrounding Perugia — one of the city's least-crowded vantage points.
