The abbey church of San Clemente a Casauria is one of the most significant Romanesque monuments in the Abruzzo region of central Italy, designated as an Italian national monument. Founded in 871 by Emperor Louis II on the site of a Roman temple and entrusted to Benedictine monks, the church received its current form in the 12th century, including a three-arched portico and a richly carved main portal whose tympanum depicts scenes from the life of Saint Clement — considered among the finest figurative stonework of medieval central Italy.
