Beeckestijn

Beeckestijn is an 18th-century Dutch country estate near Velsen, set within an expansive English-style landscape garden — a well-preserved example of the buitenplaats tradition, whereby wealthy Amsterdam merchants built grand rural retreats along the coastal region north of the city. Designated a Rijksmonument under national heritage protection, the estate now functions as a museum offering a window into the domestic life and decorative arts of the Dutch merchant elite. Visitors can tour the manor house and stroll the formal garden grounds, with their hedgerows, ornamental ponds, and carefully composed sight lines characteristic of 18th-century landscape design.
