Biesdorf-Süd

Biesdorf-Süd is an above-ground station on Berlin's U5 line in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, opened in 1988 in the final years of the GDR. Its design exemplifies the East Berlin postwar modernist aesthetic characteristic of the U5: flat rooflines, serial modular forms, and a deliberate absence of ornament. In November 2023 the station received heritage protection together with eight neighboring U5 stations, formally recognizing the line as a document of East German urban transit planning. Just north of the platform, the Biesdorfer Baggersee — a former gravel-pit lake — provides a quiet counterpoint to the surrounding residential blocks. The station is fully wheelchair accessible.
