Botanischer Garten
Cologne
The New Botanical Garden of Philipps-Universität Marburg spreads across 20 hectares on the Lahnberge hills, making it one of the larger scientific gardens in Germany. Developed between 1961 and 1977 as a successor to the older city-center garden, it holds an arboretum focused on conifers, an extensive rhododendron collection, and an alpinum featuring mountain plants from multiple continents. The tropical greenhouses are a particular draw, maintaining humid conditions for rainforest species. Open daily from 9 am (closing at 16:00 in winter, 18:00 in summer), fully wheelchair-accessible, and run by the university, the garden serves both serious botanists and casual visitors looking to walk the woodland paths in spring.
