Botev Peak

Botev Peak stands at 2,376 metres as the highest point of the Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina), making it the crown of Bulgaria's third-highest mountain range after the Rila and Pirin massifs. It is named after Hristo Botev, the Bulgarian poet and revolutionary who died fighting Ottoman rule in 1876 and remains one of the country's most celebrated national figures. On clear days the summit offers sweeping views across the Balkan ridge, stretching north toward the Danubian plain and south toward the Rhodopes. Marked hiking trails lead to the top, though the high-altitude terrain is known for rapidly changing weather conditions that demand careful preparation.
