Waldstein Castle

Waldstein Castle is a ruined medieval hilltop fortress perched at 510 metres above the Waldstein valley near Fischerbach in the Ortenau district of Baden-Württemberg. Founded in 1353, the castle was likely abandoned before the end of the Middle Ages and survives today only as scattered wall remnants. The climb through forested slopes to the former castle site rewards visitors with views across the Black Forest valley. For those interested in the minor nobility fortifications of the Upper Rhine, it offers a quiet, seldom-visited trace of 14th-century defensive architecture far off the main tourist trail.
