Château de Wangen

Burg Wangen was a Staufer-era moated castle in the Alsatian village of Wangen, southwest of Strasbourg, founded around 1260. It belonged to a network of lowland fortifications built across the Upper Rhine region during the Hohenstaufen period to control trade and waterways. Classified as a listed historic monument, the castle is nonetheless largely vanished above ground — its former outline can only be traced through historical land registers and field-name evidence. For those drawn to the medieval castle landscape of Alsace, it stands as a quiet, near-invisible remnant of a lost feudal presence on Strasbourg's outskirts.
