Château de Hohenfels

Château de Hohenfels is the ruin of a medieval hilltop castle in the Alsatian village of Dambach, first documented in 1293 and now listed as a protected historic monument. It belongs to the remarkably dense belt of 13th- and 14th-century fortifications that punctuate the foothills of the Vosges along the Alsatian Wine Route. Visitors reach the site on forest hiking trails and find substantial stretches of surviving wall, with open views across the Alsatian plain toward the Rhine. The ruin is freely accessible at all hours, making it a quiet alternative to the more heavily visited castles of the region.
