Hořovice Castle
Prague
Also known as: Salvaterra de Magos Municipality
Last surviving building of the former royal hunting palace near Lisbon.
The Chapel of the Royal Palace of Salvaterra de Magos is the sole surviving remnant of an once-important royal hunting palace of the Portuguese Crown. Salvaterra de Magos, a small town in the Ribatejo region, was renowned for its falconry traditions and bullfighting. The palace complex, favored by Portuguese kings in the 17th and 18th centuries, fell into decay after the 1755 earthquake. Only the chapel endured through the centuries and is today classified as Portuguese cultural heritage, reachable with a short drive from Lisbon.
