Christi Auferstehung

Christi Auferstehung in Cologne-Lindenthal is a Catholic church designed by Gottfried Boehm between 1968 and 1970 and consecrated in 1971. It marks the end of his series of strongly sculptural, faceted exposed-concrete buildings that would earn Boehm the 1986 Pritzker Prize; unlike the better-known pilgrimage church at Neviges, the facade here works with clearer, stepped volumes rather than crystalline forms. Inside, a high space opens up under indirect overhead light, with a strong axial focus on the altar. The parish is active, and the church can be visited during services or by arrangement; for those interested in architecture it is a key stop on the Boehm circuit around Cologne.
