Museum of the Earth of Polish Academy of Sciences

The Museum of the Earth in Warsaw is a geological and palaeontological research museum of the Polish Academy of Sciences, formally founded in 1948 but rooted in a predecessor collection from 1932. It occupies two late-classical villas along Aleja na Skarpie on the escarpment above the Vistula in the Powisle district. The permanent halls walk through the Earth's history from Precambrian to Quaternary, with mammoth and woolly rhino skeletons recovered from Polish sites. The Baltic amber collection, one of the largest in the world, is the headline attraction, with insect and plant inclusions from the Eocene. The meteorite hall includes pieces of the 1868 Pultusk fall. Tickets are cheap, the museum is family friendly, and it pairs well with a walk along the Skarpa ridge above the river.
