Wilmersdorf Cemetery

The state-run Wilmersdorf Cemetery was laid out in 1885/86 as a classic Berlin Gruenderzeit avenue-quarter cemetery and now covers about ten hectares. Burial fields A, B and D are listed as a garden monument because the original axial paths, lime avenues and family vaults survive in legible form. Among the stone mausoleums of well-to-do Wilmersdorf families you also find graves of actors, publishers and architects of the Weimar Republic. Entering through the main gate from the surrounding grid, visitors step into a surprisingly quiet, tree-canopied space that locals use as a calm walking ground in the middle of the city.
