Kokonozi Mosque

Kokonozi Mosque, also called the New Bazaar Mosque, is one of the few Ottoman sacred buildings in Tirana that survived the 1967 religion ban. Built in the mid 18th century under founder Mahmud Agha Kokonozi, it stood at the edge of what was then the new bazaar. A square prayer hall is topped by a dome on pendentives; a slender stone minaret with a pointed cap rises to the side. Unlike the nearby Et'hem Bey Mosque it sees little tourism and functions as a regular neighborhood mosque.
