Lepsius House Potsdam

The Lepsius House is a research and memorial centre in the former villa of Protestant theologian Johannes Lepsius (1858-1926) on Potsdam's Pfingstberg hill. Lepsius was among the first European eyewitnesses to document the Armenian Genocide of 1915/16, publishing his "Report on the Situation of the Armenian People" despite German wartime censorship. The villa where he lived from 1908 until his death opened as a memorial in 2011. It now holds a specialist library on Armenian history, a permanent exhibition on Lepsius' diplomatic efforts, and hosts genocide research conferences. The modest stucco building sits off the standard Potsdam tourist trail.
