Mozart Monument, Vienna

The Mozart Monument in Vienna's Burggarten is an 1896 marble statue by Viktor Tilgner honoring composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Originally placed on Albertinaplatz, it was damaged in World War II and re-erected at its current spot in the imperial garden in 1953 after restoration. The reliefs around the pedestal depict scenes from Mozart's operas, notably Don Giovanni, and a small treble-clef flowerbed laid out fresh each spring in the lawn in front has become its own ritual. Walking through the Burggarten from the Hofburg, you meet the statue head-on, with the Albertina rising behind.
