Tirana Archeological Museum

The National Archaeological Museum on Mother Teresa Square opened in 1948 and was the first museum founded in Albania after World War II. It occupies a wing of the Italian-planned university forum from the 1930s, fronted by a large columned portico. The collection traces Albania's prehistory and antiquity - from Neolithic finds and Illyrian grave goods to mosaics and sculpture from Butrint, Apollonia and Durres. After years of renovation the objects are again presented in chronological order; well-labeled cases and English signage support visitors.
