Schyrenbad

Schyrenbad is a municipal open-air pool sitting directly on the Isar riverbank in Munich's Au-Haidhausen district, one of the city's oldest continuously operating public baths. Opened in 1933 during the final years of the Weimar Republic, its classicist architecture — a regular grid layout, spare columnar elements, generous lawns — reflects the civic ambition that German cities invested in public bathing infrastructure during that era. The entire complex is a listed heritage monument, which has protected its period character from major alteration. For locals, it offers a quieter alternative to the more crowded swimming spots around the English Garden: grass lawns along the Isar, manageable queues, and a neighborhood atmosphere that feels distinctly Munich rather than tourist-facing. The pool operates seasonally in summer.
