Allianz Arena

The Allianz Arena opened in 2005 in Munich's northern Fröttmaning district as the home ground of FC Bayern München, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Its defining feature is a facade of 2,874 rhombus-shaped ETFE air cushions — a material more often used in greenhouse construction — that can be illuminated red, white, or blue via LED, a system that was unique worldwide at the time of opening. TSV 1860 München co-occupied the stadium until 2017, which is why white remains one of the three lighting states. With 75,024 seats for domestic matches, it ranks as Germany's largest stadium by capacity. On non-matchdays, guided tours take visitors through the dressing rooms, player tunnel, and press zone; the in-house fan store is among the highest-grossing in German football.
