Munich City Museum

The Munich City Museum occupies a late-Gothic complex anchored by the Zeughaus of 1493, the city's oldest surviving municipal building and originally its weapons arsenal. The permanent exhibition 'Typically Munich!' traces the city from its medieval founding to the present day, with an unflinching section on Munich's central role in the National Socialist movement as the self-styled 'Capital of the Movement.' Under the same roof the museum holds one of Germany's leading film museums, a major European jazz collection, and a puppet theater archive spanning over three centuries of Marionettenspiel tradition. The quiet inner courtyard sits directly adjacent to the Jewish Community Center and the Ohel Jakob synagogue, making the ensemble one of the most historically layered sites in Munich's Altstadt.
