Belvedere water tower

Also known as: Drehturm Belvedere

Liked by

The Belvedere water tower is a Wilhelmine-era brick structure built on one of the elevated ridges at the edge of Aachen. Towers like this proliferated across the German Empire from the 1870s onward, supplying fast-growing industrial cities with pressurized drinking water through the simple physics of gravity rather than continuous pumping. Its original infrastructure function has long been taken over by modern systems. The elevated site offers views across the Aachen area. Whether the tower itself is accessible to visitors should be confirmed before a visit.
